“Gnarly,” by Rick Goldwasser, on Flickr.
This is a long exposure taken after sunset in the Bristlecone Pine Forest of the White Mountains in California. The bristlecones in this particular grove are the oldest living things on the planet, many of them are over 4000 years old, and the oldest has been dated to over 4700 years! The trees are about the most twisted, gnarly things you’ll ever see and only live at extremely high elevations; these are at over 9000 feet.
