Elizabeth I: The ‘Hardwick Hall’ Portrait by curry15 on Flickr.
I love this painting of Elizabeth I. It hangs in the Long Gallery at Harwick Hall
The gown is black velvet studded with pearls and precious gems. The forepart is painted (stained) silk and illustrated with symbolic motifs. Bess of Hardwick is said to have made the beautiful forepart, the portrait was commissioned by her.
