Happy birthday to Chester Morris (16 February 1901–11 September 1970), whose film career fizzled out a bit by the end of the ’30s, but who lit up his share of pre-Codes.
He’s terrific in The Big House (above), though, and with Harlow in Red-Headed Woman (below). And the wonderfully atmospheric (and likely influential) The Bat Whispers!
